Spanish Club

Méxcio and Argentina
During my freshman and sophomore years of high school, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend various Spanish Club meetings. I participated in cultural games, food days, and presentations. My two most notable experiences through Spanish Club was a Comida Navideña de México bracket competition and a presentation by students from Argentina. During the food bracket competition, I was able to try a variety of common mexican desserts and learn about the significance of each in the celebration. Deepening our understanding of the cultural significance of foods helped me to approach the culture around dining and the importance of food in culture with a new perspective. During the presentation on Argentina, we learned about daily lives in Argentina, cultural events, food, and even compared music styles in Argentina to those in the United States. This experience broadened my understanding of the world by providing me with the ability to learn what it is like to communicate with those from other countries as well as gain an understanding of the cultural value that board games and other forms of entertainment can have. Both of these cultures are similar to ours here in the United States in that the connection one makes with others through food and games is insurmountable.
